Weather
Uzbekistan has a dry continental climate: hot summers, cold winters, and short but very pleasant spring and autumn seasons. For most cultural routes through Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, April-May and September-October are the easiest months for walking, sightseeing, and long transfers.
Summer can be extremely hot, especially in Bukhara, Khiva, and desert areas, so early starts and shaded breaks matter. Winter travel is quieter and can be atmospheric, but pack warm layers and expect shorter daylight hours.
Planning notes
- Choose spring or autumn for the most comfortable first trip.
- In summer, plan outdoor monuments early in the morning or near sunset.
- Bring layers for mountain areas and desert evenings, even outside winter.
